Antique Flat Cut Garnet Broochgarnet brooch pin, Georgian to Victoriangarnet brooch pin, Pretty Foil Backed Stones with Beaded Detailsgarnet brooch pin, Charming Old Piece

Dating to the Georgian period, or perhaps the early Victorian period, this sweet and petite flat cut garnet brooch pin is a lovely find...Crafted of either gold filled or low carat gold testing between 9K and 10K gold (I don't want to damage the nice gold surface with deep scratch testing) with a silver colored pin stem, the brooch/pin features 6 round foil backed garnets in a lovely oval design. Pretty beaded details accent the classic pinched bezel style settings. Perfectly lovely as it is, it would also make a wonderful conversion pendant. Each round flat cut garnet measures approximately 3.8 mm (not including the setting), with one just a hair smaller. They range in color (this could be due to natural differences or their foil backings) from a classic almandine garnet to a pyrope garnet color. They have a more dusky purple to raspberry color than the deep red most people associate with garnets. Some discoloration of the foil can be seen, though I don't find it distracting. The gems and their charming old settings are in good antique condition, with just a very little bit of light wear visible under magnification.Quite dainty in size, the brooch measures approximately 21.7 x 17 mm or approximately 7/8 of an inch x just over 5/8 of an inch. I found no hallmarks. The reverse of the piece has the original "c" style clasp and pin stem, both in good working order. The pin stem originally had gilding, though most has worn off over time.Overall, the brooch/pin is in very good antique condition, with light wear. It does have some dirt that I have not cleaned, as some prefer to receive things in all original condition. (please remember that pieces with foil backed stones should not be immersed in liquids.) The finished weight of the piece is 1.10 grams. If only this lovely little pin could tells us its history....Please write with any questions and Thanks for looking!** To see other special pieces in my ever changing collection of vintage and antique jewelry, please visit my shop where I list new pieces every day or two...and follow me on Instagram for sneak peeks and specials:[email protected]_vintage_jewels, antique brooch
