Antique Diamond Bee in 12K Gold and Silverbee necklace, Fiery Old Mine & Old Rose Cut Diamonds with Ruby and Pearlbee necklace, Victorian Period

In stock

An exquisitely detailed and sparkly antique diamond bee that dates to the Victorian period...this little beauty is perfect as a scatter pin or brooch, but would also be lovely converted into a pendant or necklace. To me it resembles a honeybee...and I also have some provenance on this special little piece...Crafted of silver topped gold testing at 12K, the Bee features a total of 15 very fiery old cut diamonds, including one larger old mine cut and 14 fine quality old rose cut diamonds. Two glowing ruby cabochons are set as eyes, and a lustrous pearl is perfectly shaped to be the Bee's abdomen. (please note that the last three photos show this bee with a larger bee and dragonfly that are being sold in separate listings. They are beautiful together, but this listing is **just** for the small be featured in the first six photos.)Measuring approximately 4 x 4 mm, the cushion cut old mine cut diamond is estimated to be approximately .30 carats, perhaps slightly more given its very chunky old cut with open culet. It truly looks larger with its incredible fire and lovely fluted silver setting. Nice and white, I would judge its color to be in the H-I range and it faces up very white and super sparkly. Eye-clean, I see only a few small clear inclusions when I look closely under my 14x loupe. It could use a little cleaning but I see no's a beautiful antique diamond. Each forewing is set with five super sparkly smaller old rose cut diamonds, and the hind wings are each set with two larger sparkling old rose cut diamonds. These rose cuts range in size from approximately 1.8 to 2.8 mm in size and are of very good quality with really good color and clarity- particularly for rose cuts of this size and period. They show only a very little bit of wear under magnification and contrast so wonderfully with the dark patina that the silver has acquired over time.Tiny 1.5 mm cabochon rubies (tested) are the Bee's eyes, and one shows a little surface imperfection under magnification.I love the old has such a beautiful warm cream to light champagne color with gold overtones. It measures approximately 6 x 5 mm and has some surface imperfections which are mostly on the reverse side.Forelegs and hindlegs are naturalistically done in gold, and the midlegs are present on the back of the brooch, attaching to the pin stem mechanism. The old tube style hinge remains nice and tight, the pin straight and the c-style clasp is in good working order. The finished weight of this delightful bee is 3.45 grams.A very special piece, this Bee, along with a diamond and ruby dragonfly and a couple of antique rings came to me from the shop collection of Edith Weber Antique Jewelry of NYC. Edith and her son, Barry, were widely respected antique jewelry experts, and Barry was often seen doing appraisals on the Antiques Roadshow. Stars often wore their pieces to the Academy Awards and other special events. ** If you are interested in adding a hidden bail to the Bee to create a pendant or adding it to the center of a nice chain to be worn as a necklace, please message me to discuss costs and options.
